We have rule 38 that states: 'No delegate or alternate delegate shall be bound by any attempt of any state or Congressional district to impose the unit rule.' Isn't that the one that frees all the delegates?
Then we have rule 40 that states: "(b) Each candidate for nomination for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States shall demonstrate the support of a plurality of the delegates from each of five (5) or more states, severally, prior to the presentation of the name of that candidate for nomination."
Now unless you know of another rule that states that 'if a state binds delegates to a candidate who did not win a plurality of delegates, then the candidate who won the plurality loses that status', then your explanation sounds off.
