Money printing is a "hidden tax" that causes prices to rise (devaluing our fiat) but it's hard for the average person to realize the root cause. I definitely DIDN'T know until I learned from Peter Schiff.
Raising taxes makes the public upset and that could help force government to spend less (though I guess they can just print more). The easy way to see that taxes are better than money printing is because politicians always seem to choose money printing. I guess that brings up the question of "why is Romney bringing up raising taxes then?" My guess is that Romney is trying to portray Obama as the "raise taxes" guy and that any raising of taxes will require EVERYONE to have increased taxes (not just the rich).
