This is a helpful post. It is a good idea to bring out everything that GJ has ever said or stands for. He has received a lot of publicity at the DP much of it favourable and most of it suggesting that he is a libertarian in the Ron Paul tradition. I have observed that he has been channelling Dr. Paul in his advertising so he is definitely aiming for that demographic.
My impression is that he has no depth. He comes across as a highly physical and ambitious personality who was a very successful businessman and a two term Governor of a very small State. During his two terms he vetoed more legislation than any Governor in history I believe but what that legislation was is unclear. He also managed to reduce government spending and this indicates that he was exercising his business proficiency but says nothing about his philoosphy in doing so.
He has promised to cut 43% across the board and balance the Federal budget in one year. In other words he is taking a meat cleaver to Federal spending whereas Dr. paul has used a scalpel and put very careful thought into his Plan to Restore America.
The most visible and vital differences between GJ and Dr. Paul are that GJ demonstrates no knowledge of the Constitution which you have pointed out, he appears to be aligned with the present thinking underpinning the present foreign policy even though he says he would cut the DoD budget by 43% and he is not at all interested in monetary policy or the Federal Reserve and would leave them in charge notwithstanding his latest announcements which appear to oppose that institution.
To my way of thinking this places him firmly in the same category as every other politician and suggests that he is promising what he thinks most Ron Paul supporters want to hear but would not deliver on his promises.
Some of the facts in the OP are new to me but serve to further convince me that the more we know about Gary Johnson the more it will become clear that he is no Ron Paul and is more a mainstream ambitious politician who will "run" the government he inherits efficiently and amorally but will do nothing to return the nation to its original republican ideals.
