Do not be afraid, folks.
Tactically, these Lenco Bearcats are utterly useless, in 'urban' operations. Just think, LA, a city of about 2 million with 5~6million within its metro area, being 'protected' with just three.
If they were really, really, really 'necessary' you don't just have three. Nor would they cancel orders, under public pressure, if the 'officers' lives truly depended on them.'
All for Fear-PR, nothing more, nothing less.
They're nothing more than a corporatist boondagle designed to force municipalities to go on tacti-fool envy (would you believe LenCo's official YT page de-listed that Team America, F*ck Yeah! music video under public uproar over glorifying militarization of the local popo? lol!) so they can charge the citizenry $200~300,000 per vehicle, or make the case for more DoD/DHS grants (aka corporatist subsidization) into buying these behemoths that are nothing more than a Fear-PR tool, sold under the guise of "protecting you." http://www.swattrucks.com/products-bearcat.aspx
Didn't ya know? EVERYTHING govt does, is done to "protect you!"
lol.
BearCats, in reality, are just lightly 'up-armored' Brinks Trucks, with a turret (for fear factor: but by the time you see 'normal' police trucks mounted with M2 "Ma Deuce" .50BMG machineguns 'patrolling' the streets for pre-crimes, clearly SHTF and even the dumbest sheeple are gonna accept that by then, we're under martial law) and fancier blinking lights; they're just APC's (Armored Personnel Carriers) that are merely designed to look imposing.
Chances are its armor plating is AR500, the industry standard, also used as metal targets at the range. Depending on its thickness its protective capabilities vary, but for most SWAT trucks, they're probably spec-ed out at its nominally 'base' level: rated to withstand most .30 caliber rifle rounds, ie 7.62 NATO/.308 and AK rounds like 7.62x39mm/7.62x54R.
Thicker ones are impervious to .50BMG, but for armored vehicle use, they become un-maneuverable/overly heavy, and cost prohibitive; by then, may as well roll around in a real armored tank.
Only if the People knew just how absolutely useless these things are in real life, they'd be up in arms over the fact that they're nothing more than just another govt waste, at best. At its worst, a tool that's used, as seen many times in what's become more common in the trigger-happy/zero-recon world of eager SWAT teams: utterly ILLEGAL, erroneous-address-house-raids that usually result in murders committed by the raiding SWAT against (an) innocent American(s), or their favorite 4-legged canine companions, or both.
Then again, if the People 'knew better,' Dr. Paul would have been the POTUS in 1988, let alone in 2008.
