I would NOT sit down and take the non-violent protest route which would only lead to them arresting me and putting me in prison for the rest of my life leaving my wife and kids to fend for themselves.
If anyone follows the non-violence route against armed government tyranny you are willingly giving up your life and liberty... and possibly that of your family's too.
The only thing that could win back our freedom in such a hypothetical scenario would be to stand up against it, using force of arms if necessary. I'd rather go out in a hail of bullets than whither away over many years tortured and starving in a prison cell leaving my family to who knows what kind of horrible atrocities (you know what happens to women and children who are unprotected in warzones, right??!!).
