Surely co-option means that the minority group accepts the premises and principles of the larger group to a greater or lesser extent and is thereafter perceived as being a part of the larger group. This can certainly be said of the various so called Tea Party groups who have been co-opted into the Republican Party.
But that is because I believe most of them accept the mantra of the neo-conservatives that "we have to fight them over there or we shall have to fight them over here" talking about the radical Islamist jihadists. This has led to their co-option into the empire building strategy of the PNAC which is pure anathema to the Ron Paul rEVOLutionaries. This is a critical difference based upon their HEART devotion to the Jewish State. This is the wedge that has been used to separate the Tea Party groups from the rEVOLution.
Since the Ron Paul rEVOLution has not and will not ever do this vis-a -vis the neo-conservative minority who hold the Republican Party in thrall at the moment it is my contention that the rEVOLution has not been co-opted. The principles of the rEVOLution are intact and there has been no compromise by those who are following Ron Paul into the Republican Party.
The proof will be in the events of the coming week. I am surprised that you Rick Mann have taken this position. You are the author of this post are you not?
There has been no co-option of the rEVOLution. The Republican Party may believe they have neutralised the rEVOLutionaries but they are the ones who are actually going to be swallowed up. The neo-conservatives are the minority and they WILL be co-opted.
I am so sorry to hear that you have bought into the defeatism that you so deplored just a short two months ago. Unless of course you are part of the group sent here to accomplish that very thing. It is indeed with the HEART that one believes and I believe that Ron Paul will win, in spite of all the efforts to stop him. Perhaps you have had a CHANGE OF HEART.
"Jesus answered them: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'" (John 8:34-36)
