Good call on the Dec of Arbroath. It is a mighty document indeed. However one small thing - they were not demanding freedom from England, they had already WON it, by force of arms at the battle of Bannockburn 1314. This declaration was the founding document of the newly independent Scotland.

Also an important statement of the constitutional nature of that state. They would accept a King, but..."Yet if he should give up what he has begun, and agree to make us or our kingdom subject to the King of England or the English, we should exert ourselves at once to drive him out as our enemy and a subverter of his own rights and ours, and make some other man who was well able to defend us our King"

That proviso was maintained when this dynasty became also King of England in 1601, that the people had the right to overthrow the King in the case of treason. Which they did in 1642.

Obedience to God is resistance to tyrants.
