Greek stone columns were made with grooves, to look like trees. It didn't make them trees though; it just meant people had moved on from wood, but kept a likeness. Cars still have wheel arches, if only a minor bump in the side, even though they are not horse-drawn carriages with wheel guards. Borrowing something doesn't make it the same as it was, it just means you have to look for the new meaning, while recognising the provenance. It is neither contradiction, nor idolatry.
