It's obvious that the christmas tree is not the subject of the passage if you read the next verse which is so conveniently left out of the quotation in the original post:
Jer 10:5 "They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good."
The intended purpose of christmas trees is not to perform evil and good.
It's an anachronistic twisting of the Bible to apply the passage to a practice which didn't exist when the text was written.
