Since we know the buildings were HVAC sealed, it is

possible those lower squibs were compressed air. Compressed air will certainly outrun gravity.
And yes, it is possible floors below impact were weakened ahead of collapse due to stresses on the core from the tilting tops, and if so, may already have been collapsing ahead of the lateral action which blew the sidewalls off, normally measured as the point of collapse.
Again, only speaking of what is possible, not claiming one or the other as fact.
But I just can't figure out what those lower squibs would have been blowing up. If explosions were being used to blow out the side walls, it didn't work on those lower floors when the squibs showed. A detonation squib represents a small charge going off near the exterior wall. The cores were either 30 feet or 60 feet away. Just doesn't make sense.
