California - Overturn Top 2 Court Hearing

The LP and others have sued to overturn Prop. 14 in California. Prop 14 turned our primary into an election with a mandatory run-off in November between the top 2 vote-getters, effectively making the campaign season between the "primary" and the run-off, pointless for any campaigns that did not make top 2. No debates, no campaign signs, no mailings, no campaigns, no chance to make one's case.

In effect, one has to run the campaign for multiple candidates if you want to make sure someone from your party gets into the top 2; alternatively, you have to try and prevent multiple candidates running for the nomination, in case they split the party vote (as the GOP tried to do by excluding people).

The next court hearing is scheduled for October 29 in Oakland. E-mail me for details if you'd like to attend.
