The government has tried to pass internet regulation/censorship but, so far, has been turned back. Obama talked about an executive order but thankfully nothing has come of that (at least yet). The next obvious approach is to say that it's in our security interests to have the government censor the internet. That's where Panetta's statement today comes in. If that doesn't work, we may very well face a false flag attack. As James Madison once said, "If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be under the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." And while looking for that exact quote, I came across another (related) one...
Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony on Operation Gladio in Europe: "You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force ... the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security."
