The Queen of England has no real power.

She is a figurehead who's only real position is to remind the British people of the powerful monarchy they once had. Still they go through the motions of succession to the throne as they did in days of old.

Real power lies elsewhere, primarily in the banks and corporations.

The President of the United States is much like the Queen of England in that he is a figurehead or a puppet, who's only real duty is to remind the people of the democracy we once had.

We still go through the motions of having elections every four years, and sometimes another family gets to move into the White House following one of those elections.
