Well, I still do not see your point here 1) voters still can vote for whomever they want; 2) I know, I know, you would talk about voting machines: a) what about time before voting machines?; b) we do not have direct democracy - Electoral College elects presidents, not people.

And by the way, in a constitutional republic, Electoral College is okay. But republic cannot overrule the majority for eternity. Just poll Americans if they want to follow the constitution to the letter or not. Most do not.'
