Google started in search and ad revenue but they are not stupid. Web advertising is not even 1/10th as effective as what television advertising used to be before DVR.

They wisely branched out into other areas from the incredibly popular Android OS (used on dumb phones, smart phones, tablets, laptops and desktops) to self-driving car technology. Both of those technologies are here to stay and are not going anywhere. They also bought YouTube which actually does a better job of delivering ads to young people unless they use AdBlocker.

Yahoo's leadership was lazy and brought very little to the web aside from their search engine, a weak mapping application, a spam-ridden set of mail servers, and a reprehensibly bad news site. Google, in the meantime, was innovating beyond most people's wildest dreams, and doing a fantastic job in most cases.

Google will be around beyond the duration of my lifetime, I should think. I am guessing Apple will as well; but perhaps not Microsoft. time will tell.

With liberty and justice for all...who can afford it.
