Been saying this for awhile.

Been saying this for awhile. Good to see another thread about it on Daily Paul.

Sheriffs because they are locally elected by the local citizens are not a standing army. This in stark contrast to an authoritarian top down approach of appointment. 'You'll get who will hold you down!' It's up to the local citizens to select a good one - "support your local sheriff" (which was also a movie title about a town sheriff btw). This system of electing your local law enforcement was the original one, and works for counties and towns. And peace officer is a much better name.

Sheriffs were also the ones that called together grand juries, and can also call a posse or deputize local citizens when they temporary need more help.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.
