My first lesson about government

was from my Mom when I was 9. After watching our 30 minutes of evening news, I was very upset seeing water cannons and dogs attacking people in the south that were fighting for civil rights. My Mom told me that we have the right and a duty to "redress" those that govern. After getting some information on my own, I wrote a letter to President Kennedy. I received a nice letter back from his secretary and the complete text of the Civil Rights Act. Then I realized that I forgot to ask for a picture of JFK and his family. They sent me several. Two months later he was assassinated. I mourned big time and have kept the letter and pictures as treasures. You are going a good job Dad. Your son could be our president someday.
