While I (white and born to well-educated parents) slept warmly in my bed in post WWII America . . . there were native American children starving in the same region; I didn't know them. There were Japanese American children trying to get their lives back after their families lost everything; there were Japanese children without parents--

I have idealized post WWII America, to my shame.
