No offense taken,

I am the type that I must make light of a serious situation to keep my sanity.

I think 2007 was the last year I could muster enough bees to make the trip to California for Almond pollination.

Bee pollination is only 2% of the cost of bringing Almonds to market, but without them they could loose 50-75% of the crop. I seen this actually happen in 2005, it was so cold for the complete almond bloom. Bees would fly only 50 feet the rest of the trees had very few almonds. At that time the grower told me all growers had surpluses waiting to sell. Turned out to be a blessing for the growers, almond prices instantly went up.

I live in Southwest Minnesota where I see CCD every day. I used to have a thriving honey business, but now I am turning my customers away that I worked 20 years to get! I get calls from new beekeepers asking whats wrong with their bees, they are dying off mid summer. Summer is when the Bees should be doing the best.

The problem is the seed coating on GMO's, this pesticide becomes part of the plant. What is worse this built-in pesticide is being picked up by the weeds growing around the corn and soybean fields. So now all nectar is becoming toxic to the bees, they literally got now where to go that isn't poisonous to them.

It is so sad, the future for the beekeeper. I actually discouraged a young person to get into beekeeping this last summer. I used to get fired up when I could share my knowledge with someone young.

The future for Almond growers is good without the beekeeper. In 2008 I think they developed a almond tree that requires no pollination. The life cycle of the almond tree is 20 years, so there may already be groves of almonds trees that require no pollination. This will destroy the Beekeeping industry because so many rely on the almond pollination money.

If we as a nation loose the bee population, will be devastated agriculturally.

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed
