How many of us have written about our "I used to be a neocon" stories? Were we idiots who suddenly became smart? Or were we smart people all along who maybe never heard the message of liberty and free market economics explained to us the way Ron Paul explains it?
To me, it's far more likely to be the latter. Ron Paul helped get a movement going but it's OUR JOB to further the movement by doing our best to explain it to people (ideally without them finding us annoying while doing so).
Calling people "sheep" is not productive. And unless you don't live in a glass house, you probably shouldn't throw around any "these people are idiots" stones.
