Interesting purist libertarian arguments against GMO labeling

There have been some interesting purist libertarian arguments floated of late against mandatory GMO labeling. I have thus far been unswayed by them and support GMO labeling. I want to know what's in the food I eat.

Fraud is a crime. If you are selling a product with GMO ingredients and are trying to pass it off as "all natural", then you committing a crime and should be penalized.

If a product contains GMO ingredients like Soy, Corn, Canolla Oil, etc., then those ingredients cease to be Soy, Corn, and Canolla Oil once they have been genetically modified. It's not really Soy anymore, but is something new and different. Similar yes, but not the same. Passing it off as one thing when it is another thing is false advertising and fraud.

In this way, we could apply existing law to get producers to properly label their products, but that won't happen. In this day and age, I may not like it, but most people want some new law to address whatever social ill they are bent up abaout.

If that's what it takes to get more people aware of this issue and get them to vote with their dollars, then I'm cool with it. The purist libertarian solution is always one we should look at, but is not always the best or most effective one when you consider existing law, the general mindset of the populace, and trends. An action less libertarian might be more apropriate to the current situation, until the mindset of the people changes in a more libertarian direction.

That's my food for thought. I think this is an exciting and important debate, and i'd like to post a link to a girl on youtube that opposes mandatory GMO labeling, because I think she articulates the other side of this debate very well. This video geve me a lot to think about, but for the above reasons, I still believe that mandatory GMO labeling would help consumers make informed decisions that would lend to the health and long life of their families.

Please subscribe to Julie, she rocks! I may disagree with her on this 1 issue, but she makes many great vids that I do agree with. And even if I don't agree 100%, I think about what she's saying. Thoughtful smart chick!
