On the contrary, I think you are giving Priebus and the GOP

too much credit and too much power.

The problem is the parties have too much control over the process as it is.

Our focus should be on removing their control entirely.

They should be relegated to what they are - private groups who are trying to influence government policy.

States should get out of any business of regulating them.

No law should exist which governs parties internally.

There should be ZERO benefit to running in a party - at least legally, and there should be no emphasis on party on the ballot.

All election should be non-partisan on the ballot, and anyone who meets the basic requirements to file should get on. And everyone should have the same requirements - regardless of party.

If a State wants to require only a fee to cover the cost of the election - then whomever qualifies and pays the fee is on.

If a State wants only those who can demonstrate some support level via petitions, then ALL candidates have to turn in valid petitions. There can't be any "presumed" support because you claim to belong to this or that party.

Go for the root of the problem - don't try to put bandaids on a cancer.
