I appreciate you telling about King James...
To be honest, I never cared enough to look up the story behind its name. However, how can you say it is the best version? It would seem that devout religious people would believe the original text with no revisions would be the "best" version. Perhaps it is the most agreeable to people with more modern views, but I wouldn't know.
I disagree with point number two. There's much of history that we know nothing about. Historical revisionism is as old as civilization. Egyptians and most other cultures have applied censorship to the past going as far as to wipe away all evidence of certain people's existence. As a result, we have the ability to learn much more about more modern history because not everything that will be destroyed has been destroyed.
I appreciate your suggestions for literature, but to be quite honest, religious study serves no purpose to me. The only time I get concerned with religion is in situations where it retards progress.
