Agree about history

In a tea party group I was in, we started a book group covering The Five Thousand Year Leap. It didn't start out this way, but we ended up just covering one or two chapters each month, meeting to discuss that chapter's principle (sometimes re-reading parts of the chapter aloud if there were questions) and then discussing how it applied to current events. The Intercollegiate Studies Institute also has great books; you might want to get on their book catalogue mailing list. (It's not the kind of catalogue with the latest trendy books but rather about history, economics, philosophy, and the founding of the conservative movement, i.e., ideologically conservative, not social conservative.) They also have this great civics test that people can take on line. And a great resource is their college directory; I used to keep a copy out at different events.

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.
