It's partially true
but there's more to it.
Rmoney was never going to win no matter the circumstances. The WH is an eight year gig don'cha know?
That aside, even mainstream GOPers weren't excited about the guy. He lost not just because of the "gifts", but also the general sentiment that he "was for the 1%", "is a closet Democrat", et cetera. You can look all throughout the political spectrum, and find only a handful of people who could actually explain why they like the guy beyond "he's a good businessman". Basically, he was chosen to run against Obama precisely BECAUSE of that perception, thus fueling the imaginary divide between "left" and "right".
Also, Liberalism is NOT what many "liberals" pass themselves off to be. The word has been co-opted just as "conservative" was.
