Why work if there is no incentive to do so?

Incentive:

NOUN:

Something, such as the fear of punishment or the expectation of reward, that induces action or motivates effort.

ADJECTIVE:

Serving to induce or motivate: an incentive bonus for high productivity.

Why work hard and get good grades if there is no incentive?

If everyone gets a C, why bother to work? Why bother to study? Everyone gets the same, "equal," grade.

And people wonder why socialism wreaks havoc on the economy.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.
