Does anyone even participate?

I agree with a lot of the posters that it's the consumer demand that drives it, not some crime by the stores. If nobody shows than there is no event.

I know they'll show the crowds on TV, but I don't know anybody who really participates in this garbage. And I'm guessing if you are half smart and at least a little discriminating towards who you hang out with, you probably don't know many people either.

We probably don't really need four 24-7 MSM news networks going ballistic over this stuff... but we have them.
