Yeah, I meant to link to this earlier. Buildings are RIGID structures. When one part fails, the rest of the structure stays in tact. So, if the columns on a lower floor fail, the building should either topple over as a single unit or drop as a single unit - i.e., it will stay mostly in tact. It will not crumble to a thousand pieces like a house of cards.

What happened to wTC 7 is impossible without some kind of demolition setup. If it was possible demolition companies wouldn't need to rig buildings. They could just destroy the columns of a single floor.
