Even during the Depression the day after T-day through Christmas was the biggest shopping time of the year. FDR even moved T-day back a week to garner another week of shopping - thought it would help the already destroyed economy.
As far as Greece is concerned...the behavior of protesting, etc. is very, very common for that culture. College students, in particular, are infamous for protesting (any and everything) rather than attending classes. In the newspapers there is a section that lists the date,times, and locations of various strikes, etc. in case you are in the mood to do a little yelling, tomato throwing, and sign waving.
The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
