It does make sense, Henry :

Levin has always known he can only but remain in Ron Paul's shade. "Politically", so to speak. You know ... Ron Paul (among so VERY few others) actually HAS something to say and stand for.

Hence the other hint :

the noun starts with "J-" and ends with "-LOUSY".

(To defend Amash is easier and harmless, on the other hand, I suppose.)
