UN troops on the ground were forced to stand by and watch the massacre take place. In some cases, hand over Tutsi people that had sought protection from them, just to see them hacked to death.
Fortunately some individuals, in contravention of standing orders, assisted many to safety. If it was not for the French military intervention, in disregard of the US led, UN resolution, the mass murder of the Tutsi people would have continued.
