There has never been, nor will there probably ever be, an "atheist regime".

Your reflex response is based on revisionist history and propaganda. The Nazi's believed they were on a Christian crusade, the Bolshivek Revolution was rife with religious imagery and the Christian god supporting the "social justice" of the labor revolt, Pol Pot declared himself to be a deity and his followers believed they were doing the work of supernatural beings, and on and on....

Ask unit commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan how they felt about "praying for the enemy".
