Many ancient religions including Yoga speak of this cycle, and so does the Mayan calendar. I guess that cycle may just be the Earth's precession. I need to also do more research.

The track record of the Mayans has been astoundingly accurate at predicting celestial events, including every single lunar eclipse thousands of years into the future.
