Comment: Unions created the middle

Unions created the middle

Unions created the middle class. This is a self-evident truth. Had workers not unionized earlier this century, we would never have had the switch from blue collar worker parents to white collar college grad children. To attack the instrument that created the middle class in a recession where the middle class is evaporating into thin air is an attack on the idea of the middle class itself.
Union membership is strength and unity. Unity is power! Without numbers the 99% won't survive against the greed of big business or of the 1%. Just remember, without unions we wouldn't have fair wages, sick leave, annual leave, maternity leave, the eight hour work day or 40 hour work week. We wouldn't have safety regulations for dangerous professions or a safe place to work in for non-dangerous professions. We wouldn't have worker's comp for when people get injured while doing their job. All these things we take for granted now as luxuries aren't luxuries, but rather rights that were fought long and hard for. If you live, you work. So the rights you have as a worker reflect those you have as a human being. If workers' rights are being violated so are human rights.
