were a big deal when I was growing up. Buildings had to be sealed envelopes for energy efficiency (wrapped in tyvek or some other plastic on both the inside and the outside). Fine while they stayed dry but as soon some water got in they turned into mold incubators. I guess building codes trump common sense.
