I figured out the cost for my district,

with a population of 20,000 and five schools. It would amount to less than $9.00 per person per year. I mean, IF there is this fear of school shooting massacres, is that so much to pay? The residents in a district would decide for themselves, but I believe that in my district, if parents were convinced that this was a real and present danger, they'd prefer to have a paid armed security guard over some teacher volunteers. Or maybe they'd be willing to cut it from the sports budget - I mean, shouldn't academics and school safety take precedence? (If anything, I'd prefer that it be administrators permitted to carry concealed weapons, not teachers.) Another idea, something that was done in at least one school in our county, one officer from the local police department involved in community outreach had office space in the school; he did some advising on the D.A.R.E. program and likely non-school-related office work, at the same time as being there in a police capacity should that be necessary. Government troll? Um, I don't think so. There's no way this should be anything but a local decision.
