Because we want Rand to have all the political successes that Ron didn't.

People often say we shouldn't judge Ron and Rand by the same standard, because they're not the same person. Well, I actually think they are nearly the same person, but they are engaged in fundamentally different tasks. Ron was trying to educate people, Rand is trying to obtain political power. Purity worked for Ron in his task, it will not work for Rand in his. Being Dr. No gets you a small and fiercely loyal following, it does not get you political power.
