This is a part of Hinduism...

as I understand it...thinking that this reality is hell. Recall the movie, "Groundhog Day" in which the principle character must relive a single day over-and-over again until he becomes worthy of moving forward. This is where the concept of re-incarnation comes from ...that we are at the "bottom rung" of life's assention, and we have to become better people in order to climb that ladder toward "heaven".
I certainly don't claim to be any sort of religious scholor! LOL...but this is how it was explained to me. As a side-note, Jews don't have a hell...(they have torchering mothers!)..humor.
