In strictly legal terms, any criminal prosecution is entitled

"Joe Accused vs. The People of the State of Connecticut," or what have you. So the law acknowledges that society is the victim, not just those murdered or whatever.

Interesting to say there is a bit of collectivist thought implied there, but that is DP insider baseball. No offense taken, good point.

Just as an aside there is a pretty good line in movie "In Cold Blood" where Robert Blake points to his executioner and asks "What's his name?" The officer answers "We the People."
