But why oh why should a state be allowed to run a business? Everything should be free market. You should lobby your state to get out of the liquor business and repeal all laws regarding the sale, distribution, and production of alcohol.
No its not complete rare for states to run the liquor stores. Why don't you have state run grocery stores? Most states are highly regulatory on alcohol.
My state Minnesota has been bad, but they are getting better. You would not believe the crazyness of the economic distortions (atleast I don't).
They just approved a law last year that let micro brews serve beer at the micro brew! Before that it had to be bottled and ship off site before purchase. There are close to 10 new brew pubs now open around the twin cities, Think of the jobs there man! The kicker is the big pusher for the new law (surly's) has even opened up their new facility! The consumer wants this stuff and it isn't harming anyone think how much money the state is getting off of these new businesses anyways. Now there is some other law I just heard they need to repeal it has to do with the quantity of beer brewed vs. what containers you can put it in. example if you brew over XXXXX gallons you cannot put it in a growler.
I know you said you don't drink so most of this is probably nothing for you to get too excited about. But for me, it is fantastic demonstration of what can happen when you get the state out of the damn way of the entrepreneur. Plus I like sipping on good local micro brews while eating some good local food at the site of the brewery.
Why don't we do weed right, just repeal all the laws governing it.
Make it illegal for minors I suppose, but that is it.
