God allows us to choose...

...evil as persons with free will; however, there are consequences to choosing evil that we bring on ourselves, just as there are consequences to choosing good. You have to keep in mind that goodness is original whereas all evil is mere corruption of goodness. You can't expect to engage in evil and somehow have a magic wand waved over it so that the results are as if you had done good. You can't expect to have a corrupted version of love to have better results than love that is a reflection of the God who is Love Himself. That's just the way things are.

The prodigal son squandered his father's wealth he had inherited, and the consequence after the short burst of living it up was wallowing in the mud looking through pig scraps for food. The good news is that like the prodigal's father, our heavenly Father is always ready to forgive, to welcome us back with open arms when we finally decide in the end to throw ourselves upon his grace and mercy and leave our selfish lives behind so we can be restored to the life and relationship we were created to have.

This is where I part ways with some fellow believers. I don't believe that God's Love has an expiration date, even beyond death; and if we do indeed choose to wander in the wilderness of hell for a time or for eons through our pride and stubborness, or the necessity for us to come to full realization of the horror of the evils we engaged in, this doesn't mean that God will ever give up on us and stop loving us and be unwilling for someone to repent after some arbitrary date. Otherwise, the idea that God's love never fails, always hopes, etc. would be a lie. I believe that the end of the story is good, and that there won't be an eternal scar on Creation, some pocket where His Love is no longer capable of conquering and His mercy of healing. ALL things in Creation will be restored as it says in Colossians. That means ALL things.
