Correct me if I'm wrong, but

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always heard there's a "holy trinity" consisting of father, son and holy spirit. These are all supposed to be God -- it's a three-in-one sort of deal, right?

If the above idea is correct, then God sacrificed himself. Which is fine, I suppose, for a Supreme Being who could have made us all "holy in his sight" in any manner he chose. So why did he choose the bloody sacrifice? For that matter, why is the Bible filled with all manner of bloody sacrifices?

As to the concept of heaven, where presumably all are happy and healthy forever, how would it be possible for me to be filled with joy while at the same time knowing that other human beings were being tortured and burned alive forever?
