I saw a video of Peter Schiff

I saw a video of Peter Schiff talking about this several years ago. He said if you don't have a lot of money, better to use it on things you're going to need. An example he gave is buying shoes now for your kids even though they are too big now. Said it's better to pay $10 now than $100 in just a few short years for the same pair of shoes. For the past 5 years, that is how I've been raising my 7-year-old daughter. I've been picking up clothes 2-3 years older so we don't have to pay a lot when the time comes. I've heard some say stocking up on food for at least 6 months would be a wise thing. I don't have a lot of money and am thinking in terms of bartering when the times comes. Think about what skills you have. If you have an excess of something people are going to need, it could be even more valuable than gold. Buy seeds (stick with open-pollinated and heirloom seeds; if you keep seeds of hybrids, they don't always produce or produce right). Good luck!
