People I know in their 40's and 50's remember what it was like when the drinking age was 18 and 19 and cops wouldn't waste their time busting up drinking parties as long as everyone was cool and not out racing their cars.

Now they are seeing their kids being dragged into the court system and given permanent black marks for something that should be a family issue and dealt with privately.

They are really disgusted with the way this aspect of young adulthood and the larger society is playing out.

Rand Paul gains points since he isn't some high and mighty better than thou, he has a real kid who (may or may not) enjoy a nip of alcohol once in a while, who is now being railroaded by a system that subsists on low-hanging fruit.
