I never thought of it that way, and I suppose you do make some good points. I did feel some sincerity with the entire exchange, and I did feel genuinely grateful for the gift. I also noticed how helping someone made Joseph feel good too. Even if he was cleaning out his garage, it was a mutual exchange which benefited both parties, and that's a good thing.
I do understand the point you've made, and for the most part, it's a good one. I don't however, think ranch kids shooting birds and snakes would classify us as evil nor that true acts of kindness are uncommon.
