It affects...

...how quickly the effects of corruption can spread, and in the case of thermodynamics, it affects how well people are able to make use of it.

You can't tell me that having freedom of religion codified as the law of the land doesn't act as ANY sort of deterrent against people casting aside their recognition and defense of it. True, if the people are corrupt they may end up disregarding or overturning it eventually; but having the First Amendment helps serve as a reminder against that in the conscience of the people.
