I was going to say something about that as well until I read your comment.
Paul Revere is an alright way to teach younger kids this part of history. But it's really more exaggerated than anything. There were many, many riders throughout the colonies that had this responsibility like you said.
But the biggest myth of them all is they really didn't go through town screaming the British were coming. They had people they were designated to tell and went to the next town. Eventually there would be another dispatcher that took the next leg. That's how they were able to spread the news throughout the colonies lightning quick.
