Connecticut hunting rules

Deer hunting would be the only likely hunting situation imaginable, yet unlikely since the land is next to a school. Even so, CT hunting rules state only a smooth or rifled bore shotgun using a single projectile (aka slug). In this case, the report is saying "armed with a rifle." This usually means a gun other than a shotgun, however, I suppose if a shotgun has a rifled bore then technically it could be a rifle.
