If you want to begin to understand the numbers, for perspective, here is a famous lecture from a Physics professor at Colorado. With a little math, and some background information, you can see that this headline is incredibly misleading. Global discoveries of oil peaked in the 1960s. Every ten years we must produce more than has been used in all of previous history, just to maintain 'steady growth'. No single discovery can do that.
