"non-intelligent, non-successful class". That doesn't really hit at the heart of the problem. By intelligence tests there are plenty of Statists who would do well. And a lot of them have become very "successful" sucking at the Teat of State. But there is a basic inability -- or unwillingness, when ones own perceived perquisites are at stake -- to learn from history and to see the bigger picture of ultimate costs quite evident in most Americans.d

How many times does one need to sit through the same B grade movie before one can "foretell" the outcome and get bored enough to demand something different in exchange for one's life?
